BA Endowed Scholarship General Information
Vision
Raise $100,000 for the Endowment by 2022 (90th Anniversary of the Chapter Founding)
Permanently memorialize BA giving with a plaque at The Eternal Flame
Raise $200,000-300,000 for the Endowment by 2032 (100th Anniversary of the Chapter Founding)
History
Two expendable accounts existed at the FAMU Foundation: Beta Alpha AKA Scholarship and The AKA Fall 1992 Current Use Academic Fund
August 2018, the Spring 1979 line established the Beta Alpha Chapter of AKA Sorority Inc. Endowed Scholarship fund to be used by ALL Beta Alpha alumnae
September 2018, the Fall 1992 and Spring 2004 lines agreed to transfer approximately $12,000 into the Endowed Scholarship account (from the prior two accounts); Spring 1993 contributed $14,000 to the endowed fund to celebrate their 25th Anniversary
October 2018, Spring 79, Fall 92, and Spring 93 BA Alumnae presented a check for $27,000 during Homecoming October 2019, Spring 79, Spring 84, Fall 84, Spring 94, Spring 99, Spring 04, and Spring 09 contributed to the endowed fund to celebrate their line anniversaries. These contributions raised the fund's total to nearly $75,000
These COLLECTIVE BA line contributions served to capitalize the endowed scholarship fund and to get us closer to our endowment goals!
Current Scholarship Criteria
We will offer two scholarships at $2,500 per year, disbursed at $1,250 per semester: one male first generation college student, one active Beta Alpha Soror. Revised criteria is under review
